Government celebrates Europe Day by hoisting flags of Estonia, Europe and NATO on Freedom Square

Today, on 9 May at 15:00, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and members of the government will take part in the ceremonial hoisting of the flags of Estonia, Europe and NATO at the foot of the War of Independence Victory Column. Prime Minister Kallas will deliver a welcome speech on the occasion.

The ceremony marks the 20th anniversary of Estonia's accession to the European Union and NATO.

Former heads of government and state secretaries, ambassadors of the European Union and NATO countries in Estonia, the Ukrainian ambassador, heads of the European Union's cultural institutes and other guests have been invited to the event.

After the flag ceremony, everyone is welcome to visit the “Our Europe. Our NATO” event area, where Estonia’s NATO allies, the Police and Border Guard Board, the Rescue Board, the Defence League and the Defence Forces and others will introduce their displays and activities until 18:00.

Europe Day is celebrated with various events across Estonia and the day also includes Prime Minister Kaja Kallas presenting the European of the Year award. The day ends with free concerts on the Freedom Square in Tallinn and the Town Hall Square in Narva.
