The money will be channelled into the national energy saving campaign “Together we can beat the energy crisis!”, which encourages people, businesses and other organisations to save energy through everyday activities.
The campaign points out that simple actions can save energy, and conscious consumption can help reduce costs. Russia’s attack on Ukraine has caused a complicated energy security situation. Saving energy is one of the quickest and most effective ways to mitigate this and save money. The energy crisis is not being tackled by Estonia alone, but countries across Europe are encouraging their people to save in order to find common relief and get out of this crisis.
The campaign appeals to everyone to do one simple thing to save energy, consume more consciously and save money. The total energy consumption of Estonian households could be reduced by up to 8 per cent if everyone followed just four simple recommendations – reduce the room temperature by one degree if possible, limit the consumption of hot water by one litre, unplug appliances that are not in use and reduce the time spent in front of screens, including TV. In addition to the appeal to contribute to energy savings, the state has developed a universal electricity service and automatic energy benefits to support people and households during this heating season.
