“My goal is to affirm Estonia’s nationwide support for Ukraine’s European journey at a time when the situation at Ukraine’s borders has become tense again due to Russia’s actions, as well as to discuss cooperation in implementing reforms. For Estonia, Ukraine is the most important development cooperation partner, whom we aid primarily in the field of education and entrepreneurship, the implementation of good governance practices, and the development of public sector digital solutions,” said Kallas.
Today, the prime minister of Estonia will meet with her Ukrainian colleague Denys Shmyhal in Kiev. Tomorrow, she will travel with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, to the Luhansk Oblast, where she will visit checkpoints and get an overview of the UNHCR’s humanitarian projects. In the war zone, Estonia supports several initiatives dedicated to the well-being of schoolchildren and equal educational opportunities, as well as helps to provide two local villages with internet access and providing humanitarian assistance to low-income families. Estonia also helps to eliminate the consequences of the forest fires that devastated the area last year.
In the evening of that day, Kaja Kallas will meet with Crimean Tatars in Kiev. On Wednesday, she will meet Ukrainan Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and President Volodymyr Zelensky. The prime minister will return to Tallinn on Wednesday afternoon.
