According to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, NATO's cooperation with strategic partners in the Asia-Pacific region is more important than ever. “We have stood united to defend our values as well as the world order based on international law, which Russia and other non-democratic forces are trying to destroy at any cost. Our unity is the strength that intimidates our adversaries the most,” Kallas said.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the leaders of Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea for their unwavering support for Ukraine. “The safety of all of us depends on how this war ends. The fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law are at stake in Ukraine. The victory of Ukraine, the complete condemnation of aggression as a tool of statecraft, and the prosecution of Russia for crimes of aggression are the only viable paths forward. It is crucial as all undemocratic forces are watching very closely the reaction of the free world to Russia's aggression,” the Estonian Prime Minister noted.
Kallas also highlighted the significance of enhancing practical cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region. “We must forge strong partnerships and work with nations we can rely on. For example, we could cooperate more in the field of cyber security and technology. I am pleased to note that Australia, Japan and South Korea are members of the NATO Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence,” Kallas stated.
