“Impressions from the Washington meeting are positive. It is important that Europe showed that it stands united alongside Ukraine”, Michal described the mood of the coordination meetings that took place via video link today. “But the work doesn’t end here. A prerequisite for a just and lasting peace is strong security guarantees for Ukraine so that Russia does not even consider repeating its aggression. Pressure on the aggressor must continue, no matter what Putin says.”
At the first meeting of the Coalition of the Willing of Ukraine, the prime minister stressed that all countries of the Coalition of the Willing must now make their contribution to Ukraine’s security guarantees. “Estonia has already publicly stated its contribution. The most important thing now is to work on the details of the guarantees that must be offered to Ukraine with the involvement of Europe and the US,” he explained.
After the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, Michal also took part in an informal video conference of the European Council, where he called on his European colleagues to support Ukraine and put pressure on Russia where Europe can do so most effectively.
“Above all, this means moving ahead quickly with the 19th package of sanctions and Ukraine’s path towards the European Union membership,” Michal said. “It is very important that a ceasefire is achieved. Ukraine cannot negotiate under constant attack,” he added.
