At 11.00, at a festive ceremony at Elering’s Kilingi-Nõmme substation, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš will open the third Estonian-Latvian electricity connection. The new connection will contribute to the security of supply, create a precondition for the development of the offshore network, and thus also for the construction of offshore wind farms, and the disconnection of the Baltic Republics from Russia’s energy network.
The meeting will be followed by a panel discussion, in which, along with the Prime Ministers, Kadri Simson, the European Commissioner for Energy, will also take part.
At the bilateral meeting starting at 13.00, Kallas and Kariņš will discuss economic relations between Estonia and Latvia, cross-border and Baltic co-operation, and the state of joint Estonian-Latvian infrastructure projects. The security situation and cooperation within the European Union will also be under discussion.
At 14.45, Kallas will visit the Jõulumäe Sports and Recreation Centre, where she will examine the facilities and receive an overview of the centre’s development plans.
