The Prime Minister said that contributing to international military operations remains important to Estonia. "We find ourselves once again in a time of war in Europe,” she remarked. “International military operations are a good training ground for our own military preparedness, but they are also an investment in strengthening ties with our allies."
Prime Minister Kallas says the professionalism of Estonians is highly appreciated by their allies. "We get nothing but praise for our personnel,” she noted. “Our Defence Forces are always impeccably prepared for international military operations. That is a great mark of recognition that Estonia can be trusted.”
The head of government acknowledged that the work of defence personnel is both physically and mentally demanding. “That is why it is important to remember that help is there," she said, encouraging the members of the Defence Forces and Defence League to make use of the support services provided by the state if they need them. She added that the support of the families of those who serve on foreign missions is essential in guaranteeing their outstanding work.
Today's reception was attended by more than 100 members of the Defence Forces and Defence League, most of whom have served in Iraq in the US-led military operation Inherent Resolve. In addition, Estonia contributes to UN, NATO and EU operations in Lebanon, Iraq, Mozambique, the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the Middle East.
