Stenbock House, 3 April 2024 – Today, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal is on an official visit to Estonia. He will meet with President Alar Karis, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, and President of the Riigikogu Lauri Hussar. Shmyhal will also give a speech at Tallinn University of Technology.

At their meeting, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and her Ukrainian counterpart Denis Shmyhal will discuss all-round support for Ukraine, including matters related to the reconstruction of Ukraine. Other topics include the use of frozen Russian assets, holding Russia accountable, and sanctions. Ukraine’s path to the EU and NATO will also be discussed.

Ahead of the meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmyhal, Prime Minister Kallas said that we must continue to support Ukraine militarily, economically, as well as politically. “We believe that Ukraine can win the war and that evil can be defeated,” Kallas said. In addition to military aid, we need to start thinking about reconstruction in Ukraine now.

The prime minister also stressed that these are decisive times, and we need to consciously maintain our focus in supporting Ukraine. “We must not be distracted by issues of domestic politics, especially in the context of the upcoming elections in Europe and beyond. If Russia’s aggression in Ukraine pays off, we will all find ourselves in a much more dangerous world,” she said.

At 4.30 p.m., a joint press conference of the prime ministers of Estonia and Ukraine will be held at Stenbock House. The press conference will be broadcast live in English and Estonian. Additional information: Jevgenia Värä, +372 5254377, press@riik.ee.
