The Joint Expeditionary Force is a UK-led defence cooperation format that includes Estonia, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. In crises and wartime, the JEF's primary task is rapid response at sea, on land, and in the air in the Baltic Sea, Northern Europe, and in the High North.
The Joint Expeditionary Force plays an important role in the deterrence and defence posture of the Baltic Sea region, and the joint response options within the JEF are complementary to NATO's activities. The JEF is designed to be a first responder before NATO. It is comprised of like-minded nations ready to contribute quickly and flexibly to various operations, from humanitarian crises to conventional warfare.
