Prime Minister Kallas says international cooperation is vital to Ukraine’s recovery. “A Ukrainian victory remains our goal,” she remarked. “To that end, the international community must continue to provide support to the country, and not only in a greater volume, but also over a longer term. Ukraine must be capable of standing up to the aggressor both on the battlefield and in keeping its state and economy functioning.”
As part of the conference, at 15:30 Estonian time this afternoon, Prime Minister Kallas will be taking part in a panel focussing on preparations for Ukraine’s EU accession. Discussing this issue alongside the Estonian head of government will be her Lithuanian counterpart Ingrida Šimonytė, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna, European Commission Vice-President Maros Šefčovič, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Luminita Odobescu and German Minister of State for Europe Anna Lührmann.
“Ukrainians have shown that the necessary reforms can be implemented both quickly and effectively,” Prime Minister Kallas noted. “It was thanks to their determination that the EU made the historic decision to open accession negotiations with them. It is our collective duty to support Ukraine on this path.”
While in Berlin, the Estonian head of government will be holding two bilateral meetings and speaking at an event organised by the German Atlantic Association to mark the 75th anniversary of NATO and the 20th anniversary of Estonian joining the alliance.
Attending the Ukraine Recovery Conference alongside Prime Minister Kallas is Minister of Health Riina Sikkut, who will be taking part in a discussion on mental health, rehabilitation and e-health. Estonia will be further represented at the event by Undersecretary for Economic and Development Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mariin Ratnik and Deputy Secretary General for Maritime and Water Affairs at the Ministry of Climate Kaupo Läänerand.
